Walnut Middle School eighth-graders (from left) Kaitlin Thornton, Manuel Medina and Alex Leyva work on a science project Wednesday afternoon. While there was a significant increase in absent K-8 students in the Grand Island public school system on the day following an Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel raid at the Swift packing plant in Grand Island, there were only two students absent from this class.
