Lane Hickenbottom

Independent/Lane Hickenbottom Eight-year-old Latifah Root smiles while eating her hot dog lunch during the National Adoption Day party Saturday at the Adams County Fairgrounds in Hastings. Only hours earlier, Latifah was one of 9 children adopted at the county courthouse when she became the fourth child adopted by Ronald and RuAnn Root of Juniata. RaAnn Root, who is the director of the Adams County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), said the party is Òone of the few times foster parents are recognized as the true unsung heroes of the judicial system.Ó Root expressed a level of peace and calmness having LatifahÕs adoption behind them. ÒSheÕs our forever child and we are so happy for that.Ó
