Independent/Scott Kingsley

If thereÕs a constant through the work Aimee Lee has done at Art Farm, it has to do with appreciating and living in a particular space. Her work area, where she makes her own paper, spins it and weaves it into everything from clothing to books, includes pieces of poetry and design on the walls. Her show, titled ÒShe Inhabits It,Ó started as a reaction to a beautiful old barn at Art Farm. ÒAt first, I thought it was about me and this barn,Ó Lee said. ÒBut as I moved forward, IÕve found thatÕs less what itÕs about.Ó For Lee, the treasure from Art Farm has been her time to focus on her art, which gave way to an understanding of how this residency plays into her life. For the first time in her life, she said, sheÕs grateful for where sheÕs found herself at the time she finds herself there, which usually doesnÕt happen. The environment has also given her a chance to experiment with paper art, in which sheÕs trained, and performance art. ItÕs a fresh combination, where there are few examples and, as such, fewer rules. Part of her performance will consist of a treasure map, created out of paper she made and written in her handwriting, which she will give each person who comes to the Art Harvest. The map doesnÕt lead anywhere but instead asks those holding it to Òtreasure themselves.Ó ÒItÕs about experiencing something in the moment,Ó she said. ÒItÕs about holding that map and being in that space.Ó Art Farm has been a good experience for Lee, she said, because it will affect more than just her art. With two more residencies on the horizon, it will change the way she looks at art and artists. ÒItÕs a renewed sense that I can do this anywhere, I can make art anywhere,Ó she said. ÒA lot of things shift in how I relate to people, and itÕs odd because Art Farm is where a lot of things solidified.Ó
