Independent/Barrett Stinson

Grand Island rescue workers help a fellow city employee (second from right) who was mowing a detention cell near the corner of Curtis Street and Del Monte Avenue on Tuesday morning and wound up pinned underneath the mower at the edge of the water in the detention cell. The city worker, who was very fortunate to walk away from the situation without any apparent serious injury, could have been trapped in the water had the riding mower traveled a few feet farther down the embankment of the detention cell.
