Independent/Barrett Stinson

Seventh-graders Levi Schutz (right) and Luke Maxon have been friends since the third grade. Levi is more than a friend to Luke, who is autistic and cannot speak. At times, he is an interpreter for Luke who understands his movements, facial expressions and noises. Because of his friendship with Luke, Levi received a PresidentŐs Volunteer Service Award from the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program.
