Independent/Barrett Stinson Dirt work on the new Wasmer water detention cell has begun. The cell is being constructed to hold water drained from Second Street, which is under design to be widened to five lanes. The City of Grand Island bought the land, the former site of Wasmer Elementary School, for $180,100 in December 2004. It hired Diamond Engineering of Grand Island earlier this month to build the cell for $43,475. Sewer replacement between Koenig and Division Streets from Harrison to Broadwell began a few weeks ago for the cell and now the cell itself is being excavated. The dirt is being taken to the site of the Law Enforcement Center, which needs to be raised for construction of the new center that will house the Grand Island Police Department and Hall County SheriffÕs Office. 0524 wasdet bjs Want a reprint of this photo?
