Independent/Gerik Parmele

Katie Johnson (right) talks to Jody Stamer as she has her nails manicured at Sheer Elegance Salon by Hope Nelsen Thursday afternoon. The two ladies took advantage of the offer of getting free manicures for women who took part in last weeks sandbagging effort to spare homes in northwest Grand Island from flooding. Johnson worked to save her home and her neighbors while Stamer drove in to volunteer.
