Independent/Barrett Stinson

A new phase of construction begins on Wednesday, as the first of 24 concrete pillars are placed in the ground for the Grand Island Public LibraryÕs expansion project. The pillars, which are placed 40 feet apart, will make up the foundation of the outer shell of the building, with beams to be added after all the pillars are set in the ground. The expansion project is projected to be completed by the end of the year, followed by renovation of the existing facility, to be completed in May 2007.
